Backbone named Ipê network, launched in 2005 is the first optical national academic network of the Latin America. It consists of 27 points of presence (PoPs) - which is one per federal state plus the national capital. It provides Internet connectivity to more than 500 research and education institutions around the country, totaling more than 3.5 million users. Since 2010 the rede Ipê has an aggregated capacity of 233.2 Gbps, where most of the PoPs are interconnected with 10 Gbps links. The Ipê network has international connections to RedCLARA (Latin America), Internet2 (North America) and GÉANT (Europe).

The netflow data from RNP comes from the PoP located in São Paulo (state) that connects RNP to AmLight (Americas Lightpaths) in North America.
